Introduction

RumorMill Setup is an application used to configure and administer the RumorMill server application. RumorMill setup can be run on the same computer as RumorMill server, or it can be used to remotely administer a copy of RumorMill Server that is running on another computer.

The following links describe what each of the panels above do.

Remote Commands

Compact database... This command instructs the RumorMill sever to compact one or more of its databases. A dialog is presented that allows the system administrator to choose which databases should be compacted. Note that using this command may (not always though) force clients (users) of your server to be disconnected.

Expire dabase... When used, this command will cause the RumorMill server to perform an expiration on the database. This expiration is identical to the expiration that is normally performed once per day (when enabled).

Halt server... This command shuts down the RumorMill server.

Delete oldest article file... When issued, the RumorMill server will determine which of the existing article files in the database is oldest and delete that article file. This command can be useful if disk space is low (or space is needed for other purposes) on the computer running RumorMill server.

Help

RumorMill Setup has balloon help for all of the dialogs in the application. Using balloon help can be especially useful for new users.
